Lady Astrid Derring lost almost everything when her husband abandoned her five years ago. She needed to get rid of most of her staff, borrow gowns, and live off cucumber sandwiches to survive. When she receives an anonymous letter stating that Bertram is in Scotland and about to wed an heiress under an assumed name, she decides to stop him. Accompanied by her maid, Astrid heads north.

Griffin Shaw is in Scotland to find out who his real parents were. They died aboard ship to America when he was a baby and he was given to the Shaws to be raised in Texas. He is investigating his family roots when he hears women's screams. After being knocked out, he awakens in Astrid's presence. While she is beautiful, Griffin finds her personality very cold but nevertheless decides to accompany her to find her husband.

Astrid doesn't want a companion and sets off to find Bertram herself. When she locates him, she informs him that she knows of his intention to marry the heiress. Bertram tries to make a deal to send Astrid funds if she agrees not to blow his cover, but he is murdered him while Astrid hides under the bed. Astrid knows she was seen and will be a suspect. She tells Griffin what happened and accepts his help. Griffin doesn't know what draws him to Astrid. She has a sharp tongue and doesn't want to be touched by a man ... until he kisses her and passion ignites between them.

Both Griffin and Astrid have obstacles to overcome, but their passions override their fears. Though they have strong feelings for each other, their worlds are so different that they are not sure if a relationship is viable. In Surrender to Me, Sophie Jordan has penned an intriguing story that readers will not want to put down. It captured me in the first chapter.
