ichael Quinn has dedicated his life to hunting down and eradicating vampires, so it's no small shock to his system when he himself is turned into one of the very creatures he loathes. Despite his new circumstances however, he's determined to regain his humanity. But the only way to do so is to get his hands on an ancient artefact known as
. Unfortunately for Michael someone else is desperate to find the same relic and she's prepared to do just about anything to get her hands on it first.
upernatural assassin Janie Parker receives succinct orders from her
Boss that she either find and deliver
or face his monumental wrath. As a frequent witness to The Boss's anger, Janie is under no illusions about what will happen to her if she doesn't deliver the goods. Her task becomes even more pressing once she discovers that her evil employer also holds the wellbeing of Janie's long-lost sister in the palm of his sinister hand.
ith so much at stake and very little time in which to pull off her life-and-death mission, Janie is more than willing to double-cross Michael - the silly girlhood crush she still harbours for the
fledgling vampire be damned. The longer the pair works side-by-side to find
, the more both realise that they make a great team in all ways. But the only way they can live happily ever after is to figure out The Boss's weak spots without getting themselves eviscerated in the process.
Lady & the Vamp
, Rowen presents a smoothly paced, well-told story liberally laced with her trademark humour. Janie is a sassy,
heroine and Michael the larger than life hero - a guy a bit rough around the edges but also more vulnerable than usual now that he's a vampire. It's too bad that pesky Alpha gene of his makes it so hard for him to ask for help. Unfortunately, their showdown with Janie's dreaded Boss is something of a bust. After a nice build-up the pair hand off the action to a secondary character rather than taking care of business themselves. Overall though,
Lady & the Vamp
is the best of Rowen's series thus far and promises a few hours of light, entertaining paranormal fun.
