Shannon Parker has spent months in the mythical world of Partholon. Getting used to being the goddess Epona's chosen wasn't easy, but she's finally settled in. She adores her new life, and her new husband. And when she learns she's pregnant, she begins to think things just can't get any better.

But they can get worse - much worse. When Shannon is suddenly ripped from the Partholon and thrust back into her identity as a schoolteacher in Oklahoma, she's devastated. Events grow even more dire when Shannon realizes that she didn't make the trek into her world alone. A powerful, malevolent evil has followed her to Oklahoma, and now she must not only find a way to return to the Partholon, but also to eliminate the threat she's brought with her.

In the Partholon, Shannon learned that everyone she knew had a mirror on Earth; someone with similar looks and personality traits. Knowing that her only hope is to track down one of these mirror souls with the power to return her, she sets out to find her husband's equivalent. But along with him, she also finds more than she bargained for. Can Shannon find a way to return to the world that's become her true home without losing herself in the process?

In this sequel, Cast reintroduces readers to Shannon, a heroine who is much more than the sum of her human or divine parts. In Divine by Mistake, we got to watch Shannon come to terms with her new life and learn things about herself she never knew. In the follow-up book, Cast expertly takes all that away and leaves the heroine struggling to make sense of a world she thought she understood.

The novel is wonderfully written, with beautiful magical and mythical details sprinkled throughout. Shannon's abrupt snatching from the Partholon sets into motion a wild stream of twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The emotional connection between characters doesn't take a backseat to the fast-paced plot, however. When Clint is introduced and Shannon finds herself attracted to her husband's mirror image, the intensity of the novel reaches an all-time high.

With heaps of conflict and well-developed drama, Divine By Choice is a real treat for fans of Divine By Mistake. Newcomers to Cast's series should pick up the first book to gain a complete understanding of the complex issues at play throughout both novels, but Divine By Choice can be read as a stand-alone.
