Amanda McHenrey is fresh out of college and eager to begin her new career. She starts at the bottom rung of the entertainment industry as a secretary for a seedy talk show and has to fight off her new boss's advances. Though not the job she wants, it gives her a start. She lives with her brother Valentin, sister in law Patricia, and their baby, picking up the pieces when the parents fall apart.

Amanda's boyfriend James is trying to get his law degree at Harvard. He deals with his separation from Amanda by falling into bed with any woman who strikes his fancy. Amanda, on the other hand, soon falls in love with her brother's best friend, Gabe. James senses that something is wrong and hightails it home to reclaim his woman. He is distressed to find out that Amanda is having a relationship with a multiracial man. A tragic incident occurs between Amanda and Valentin, leaving Gabe to show his feelings in a way that costs him the woman he loves. It also throws Amanda into a loveless marriage, leaving her to wonder if anyone will ever rescue her.

Rescue Me is a meaningful story, which makes readers wonder about their own life choices. Amanda and James stayed together in a relationship that should have ended years before. James is selfish, having no qualms about ruining a woman's life to satisfy his own feelings. Gabe is so sweet, kind and warm that, right from the beginning, you want to reach through the story to pair him with Amanda in a happily ever after. Gigi Levangie Grazer writes a thought-provoking tale that will linger in your heart for a long time.
