Though at first glance Marrying Up seems stereotypical and flaky, once you get past the outer layers of the story it turns into a good read. Twenty-eight-year-old Holly Hastings works a dead end job as an obituary writer for her home town paper. Her best girlfriend, George, earns a meager income at the town's local bookstore. They are sick of their jobs and want to make a change, a big change - a change so big it could affect their lives forever.

Holly originates the idea, the goal being to marry very rich and live like queens for the rest of their lives. They research bachelor hot spots around the country and visit to see for themselves. At first all seems hopeless. Their first excursion to Naples, Florida comes up empty. The second, however, proves fruitful, and they quickly find themselves prime real estate for next to nothing in San Francisco. The only problem is that the sweet deal comes with a price. Their hot landlord requires that they help renovate his humble abode.

As the story continues many things change including the duo's views on marriage and how much they really want to achieve the goal they set for themselves. Marrying Up is a light, predictable read, whose protagonists get themselves into some very funny situations.
