No one expected serene, respectable Delia to be the Effington twin to court scandal, but she certainly did so by hastily marrying a notorious rake and becoming a widow soon afterwards. Now, ostracized by family and society, in her loneliness Delia befriends her new butler. But a deep longing for 'grand adventure' still simmers within her and, upon meeting the handsome, roguish and somewhat familiar Viscount Anthony St. Stephens, it quickly flares into life.

Anthony has secrets enough to last a lifetime. Unknown to Delia, he has been helping her for quite a while. Unable to stifle his growing feelings for her and pretentiously justifying it as his duty, Anthony begins to court Delia who, in turn, is posing as her twin. In an attempt to become a lady of experience, Delia makes Anthony a saucy offer - he's confounded and mightily tempted. But danger isn't far behind. When secrets come tumbling out, will their love be strong enough to withstand them?

Ably combining the historical ambience with intrigue, deadly danger and a growing romance, Victoria Alexander demonstrates sound writing skills in The Lady In Question. Delia and Anthony's feelings are made apparent to readers in a manner that is sensitive, humorous and heartwarming, and a somewhat unusual plot retains suspense till the very end.
