Series have become something of a staple in the romance genre these days and one of the best series writers around is Suzanne Brockmann. In book four of her incredibly popular Troubleshooters series, Brockmann showcases another SEAL Team Sixteen member, Wildcard (Ken) Karmody, resident 'computer wiz' and also a man who's had absolutely no luck in the romance department. His long-time and long-distance love affair has ended on a very sour note and left Karmody doubting he'll ever find the woman of his dreams. But things take a positive turn when he helps heiress, Savannah Van Hopf, fix a flat on her rental. Within hours they've shared dinner and an intimate night the likes of which Karmody has only ever imagined. The next morning he's on Cloud Nine and arranges a long overdue leave only to find out he'd been used. Savannah admits that her sole intention in seeking him out was to enlist his professional help in rescuing her uncle Alex from kidnappers holding him ransom in Indonesia. Naturally Karmody is furious, but despite feeling used and betrayed, he tags along with Savannah anyway - obviously the spoiled little rich girl had absolutely no clue what she'd gotten herself into and even less of a clue about how dangerous that part of the world really was!

From then on Out of Control is a roller coaster ride that alternates between hair raising adventure and sizzling romance. The real beauty of Brockmann's books continues to be her mastery in showcasing and deftly maneuvering a large cast of diverse and thoroughly realistic characters through multiple, connecting plot lines. This time around she interweaves four stories besides Ken and Savannah's - that of Savannah's grandmother, Rose, former WW2 spy; the rescue mission mounted by SEAL Team Sixteen to bring back one of their own; and the most poignant - the bitter sweet love affair between missionary, Molly Anderson, and a shadowy, ex-patriot smuggler known only as Jones. Let's hope Brockmann doesn't keep readers waiting as long for a conclusion to their story as she has with two of her other recurring characters, Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke!
