In a Fix by Linda Grimes is a romantic romp that introduces Ciel Halligan, aura adaptor extraordinaire, and develops a love triangle involving Ciel and members of her overprotective extended family - bad boy Billy (her best friend and adopted cousin) and CIA agent Mark (her oldest brother's best friend and the object of Ciel's 'unrequited childhood passion').

But first, what is an aura adaptor? Kind of a human chameleon, someone who can change their appearance at will - into both male and female bodies, which is where a lot of the fun comes in. Ciel, Billy and Mark are all aura adaptors - Mark's bosses know what he is, but the others keep their abilities a secret.

Ciel runs her own business, using her talents to help wealthy clients. Currently she is posing as rich, pretty, pampered Mina, spending time with her 'Adonis incarnate' boyfriend Trey, to close their engagement and make sure he has a ring ready. But their idyllic Bahamian beach interlude ends with a bang, after Trey is kidnapped.

Billy is already on the scene, having posed as a neighbor, 'a dead ringer for Queen Elizabeth', keeping an eye on Ciel on Mark's orders. And it turns out that Trey has been working for Mark too. Billy and Mark want Ciel to stay out of danger but she feels responsible for recovering Mina's fiancé-to-be so she tags along too.

Ciel is kidnapped, shot out of a trebuchet, and almost drowned as she, Mark and Billy go up against a 'wacko neo-Viking splinter group bent on restoring masculinity to Scandinavia.' But Ciel sneaks in a few kisses along the way and unleashes a 'perfect shitstorm' of revenge on the villains. In a Fix is simply tons of fun.
