Lord Gabriel Sharpe's grandmother gave him and his siblings an ultimatum - marry or lose their inheritance. For seven long years he has also lived with guilt over his best friend's death. To kill two birds with one stone he chooses the lovely Virginia Waverly to be his wife. Gabriel hopes to atone for his friend's death by marrying his sister and making sure she is taken care of. But of course it isn't that easy. Virginia challenges him to a race on the same track where her brother died. She detests him like no other.

In answer to Virginia's challenge, Gabriel makes a wager with her, one race at a less dangerous course. If he wins he gets to court her and if she wins, he will have to race her on the course on which her brother died. As time goes on another obstacle develops to their union - Virginia's grandfather, General Waverly, who blames Gabriel for Roger's death. With the stakes so high, will Gabriel convince Virginia to marry him? Or will he have to give up his inheritance and show her how much he really cares?

This is a fun short tale, great for the beach on a hot summer's day or for a quick winter's fireside read. As you get lost in this romance - and you will - you will enjoy its entertaining characters, witty dialogue and some very hot love scenes, and be transported to a different era.
