Leopold Dautry, Duke of Villiers, must get married quickly. Lady Eleanor, the Duke of Monague's daughter, seems a likely candidate, and they are betrothed. But then he meets Lisette, pretty daughter of the Duke of Gilner. Lisette is to wed another man, but lets Leopold believe he has a chance with her.

Eleanor knows that Leopold is marrying to find a mother for his six illegitimate children, but the more she gets to know him, the more she develops a soft spot for him. However, it becomes clear to her that he will marry Lisette, because she works with children from the orphanage and seems great mother material. Eleanor renews her ties to a former lover whose wife just passed away. But, as much as Eleanor wanted him before he married, she realizes now that she has fallen in love with the Duke of Villiers.

Lisette has some quirks that come out very quickly in the story and it is hard to see Leopold fall in love with someone who is afraid of a small dog and seems fragile. He is attracted to Eleanor but thinks that Lisette will be a better mother to bring his children into society when they come to age. Can he overcome his feelings for Eleanor?

A Duke of Her Own is part of the Duchess series. Villiers has made an appearance in each of the previous stories, it is nice to see him on center stage this time. Eleanor and Lisette are opposites and I enjoyed watching them vying for Villiers' attentions. Eleanor's dog Oyster appears in both amusing and sad scenes. Overall, the Duke of Villers' story is an entertaining and romantic read.
