Babette Robinson has never been able to hold down a job let alone commit to long-term relationships. Despite her own personal failures, however, she believes that she may finally have discovered her true professional calling. When a troubled marriage or broken relationship needs fixing, Babette always seems to have the right answers. She becomes so adept at helping friends and relatives, she decides to turn her hobby into a business. Soon she's billing herself as the love doctor and garners quite the following in and around Birmingham.

When socialite Kitty Carelle turns to her for help, Babette is stunned. Everybody knows that Kitty and Jeff Eubanks had been poised to walk down the aisle, but those plans go awry when Kitty gets cold feet. She's the first to admit she's made a horrible mistake in alienating Jeff's affections and desperately wants to make amends. Jeff on the other hand, has no intention of taking her back - Kitty made her choice when she decided to have a very public fling with another man. Now it's up to Babette to work her usual miracle - but can she get the job done knowing that in her heart of hearts she is still madly in love with Jeff Eubanks as well?

There are a number of reasons why this overly fluffy romance didn't work for me: a) Babette's agreeing to accept Kitty as a client seemed far too fortuitous and rather unprofessional, given Babette's former relationship with Jeff and b) most of the cast are portrayed as rather shallow and silly. Readers in the mood for a quick formulaic beach read will enjoy Babette and friends' antics, but those looking for a contemporary romance with a bit more substance might want to give Flirting With Temptation a pass.
