Amanda Martineau was raised by her grandparents after she was orphaned by a plane crash. She is devastated when death and Alzheimer's tear her grandparents from her. Recurring nightmares keep her dependent on her husband, Nick. Although Nick is a loving husband, he pushes her fears and questions aside, leaving her even more dependent on him.

A half-finished letter from her grandfather, begging her to forgive him, leaves Amanda confused and pushes her into a quest to find out the real story of her life.

A business trip to California gives Amanda the freedom she needs to research the plane crash that killed her parents, but more questions intrude. Uncharacteristically, Amanda takes steps that lead her away from Nick and into a situation that threatens her life. A completely new world opens up when Amanda discovers her real name and her birth family. Lies that clouded her life are revealed and Amanda must save herself and Nick if they are to have a future together.

The truth truly lies in the dark in Callender's well-written page-turner, guaranteed to keep the reader on the edge of the seat and guessing to the last page. Well done, Ms Callender, more books please.
