Theo Petrakos has seen a lot during his years on the Bahia Vista force, but when he and his partner are called in to investigate a mummified corpse surrounded by a roomful of what looks like very hi-tech futuristic gizmos, his Christmas vacation takes a sudden unbelievable detour. Before the day is done, he goes 'from a horror movie in his backyard to the middle of a Star Trek set' as he's attacked by fifteen-foot zombies that fall from the sky, and then whisked aboard an honest to God space ship. Once he regains his equilibrium, Guardian Force Commander Jorie Mikkalah explains her mission to contain an infestation of biomechanical organisms that have targeted Earth as their latest breeding ground.

Jorie is inclined to agree with Theo's assessment that, as a trained officer, he'd be an asset to her team and to her mission on Earth. But her superiors have other plans for Theo - forcible relocation to a faraway world. It would only further compromise their assignment if the nil inadvertently leaked word to his own superiors of the Guardians' presence. Past encounters on similar worlds have more than proven that point. Then, their enemies launch a counter attack and Jorie and her team are left to fend for themselves as well as stop increasing zombie attacks. Now she has no choice but to enlist Theo's aid. But what begins as strictly a working relationship soon becomes much more than either could ever have imagined. Theo wants Jorie in his life, but even if they manage to survive the zombies, which path will she choose - her career or love?

If you thought that just about every zombie plot line has been done and re-done, then think again. In The Down Home Zombie Blues, Sinclair has taken the obligatory flesh-sucking creatures we all know and love, dreamed up a few imaginative twists to their physiology and purpose, and turned them into an interstellar threat to be reckoned with. Plenty of action and adventure, nice touches of humour, great world building, and two very engaging leads in Theo and Jorie, create a perfect blend that SF romance fans are sure to enjoy.
