Successful romance author Claire Wingate never imagined how drastically her life could change in a single day. One moment she's dressed to the nines and preparing to help her best friend celebrate her wedding day and the next her secure world falls apart when she catches her fiancée doing the naked tango with the appliance repair guy. The second Claire's bridesmaid duties are over she heads to an anonymous hotel bar to drown her sorrows and try and get the horrible image of Lonny out of her mind. Hours later, she awakens in an unknown hotel room with the mother of all hangovers and a very handsome, towel-clad man wishing her a cheery good morning and commenting, 'You've grown since the last time I saw you naked'.

Claire is horrified that she's spent the night with her old childhood crush, Sebastian Vaughn. The last time she'd seen him her prudish mother had forever banned the sixteen-year-old from returning to their estate after informing Claire the correct way babies are conceived. She never expected to see Sebastian again - the award-winning journalist had been far too busy pursuing his career. Yet here he was, in all his sexy and teasing splendor, mortifying her all over again. Sebastian never expected to see little Claire Wingate again either, but when the opportunity arose for him to rescue her from herself he surprised himself by stepping right in. So what if he told her a little white about how she'd been a wild woman in bed last night. They were never going to see each other again anyway; no harm - no foul. Sebastian's good deed comes back to haunt him, when he and Claire keep bumping into each other and fall into an affair with the understanding that there are no strings attached. But after months of trying to move on, neither is able to write off their constant, flaming attraction as simple lust.

While almost everything about Gibson's plot and characterizations is vaguely reminiscent of a re-tooled version of the movie Sabrina, her flair for humor-laden dialogue (including many pithy, wry observations about life and love and the differences between men and women) is the heart of this story. Claire's relationship with her three best friends (also writers) is well done and often hilarious as they discuss their careers. Unfortunately Claire's and Sebastian's romance is unconvincing - the pair barely spend enough time together to nurture a lasting relationship and basing Claire's falling in love on her past infatuation just doesn't work well. However, though I'm In No Mood For Love may not be one of the author's more compelling stories, it has enough Gibson touches to carry readers away for a few hours of enjoyment.
