Probation Officer Eve finds herself sleeping with her sexy veterinarian, Nils van der Hoeven, to relieve her frustrations. It had been three years since she went to bed with a man. Her first husband, Dennis, walked out on Eve and her two boys when they were young. Eve decided to make another go of it and had two children with Joseph, but things fell apart once more, and she was again left alone with two small children.

Now, Anna is nine and Robbie is going through the terrible two's. One of Eve's older sons drops the life altering news that his girlfriend is pregnant and they are getting married. The world seems to tip a bit. The boys want to invite their father and Joseph. Eve does not want to see Dennis and his family - and she is not at all sure that she made the right decision in letting Joseph go. Eve struggles to keep things together, but watches them unravel before her eyes.

This is a wonderfully written tale about a woman going through a midlife crisis. The characters are well developed and reach out through the novel with a message for the reader. There is a little bit of Eve in all of us, as we watch our children grow and move on with their own lives. In Did the Earth Move?, Carmen Reid spins a story that pulls readers in at the first chapter and leaves them with food for thought when it ends.
