Jane McGregor, a pink slip designer, is emailed that she's been laid off from her job. She is horrified to find out that her boyfriend Mike, the vice president of the company, signed her termination papers. Upon confrontation, he tells her that the relationship is not working out.

Despondent and already deeply in debt, Jane wonders how she will pay for her extravagant apartment. Her father and brother nag her to send out resumés and try to get another job. The bills keep pouring in and when finally Jane realizes she has to ask her parents for help, she discovers that her father has joined her in the unemployment lines. She decides to take up the offer from one of her previous co-workers of being her roommate.

Cara Lockwood takes a serious situation and adds an amusing twist. The notion of friends conniving to get back at upper management, while unrealistic, was funny. In her late twenties, Jane has no sense of monetary value, but her immaturity makes for humorous scenes that made me laugh. I found myself looking forward to the rejection letter that started off each chapter.

Pink Slip Party is a great choice for those wanting a brief break from the real world. I enjoyed it and look forward to other books by Cara Lockwood.
