It all began with Flowers In The Attic; and now the mesmerizing, tragic story of the Dollanganger children continues in the latest novel, Secret Brother.

As with other V.C. Andrews novels, I just couldn't put this one down. This time the story backtracks to the fate of one of the twins and introduces a new family to the twisted tale of secrets, lies, and incest.

Aside from the riveting stories, I really like and appreciate how a reader can pick up a book at any point in the series and still understand the story. I have yet to read the first several novels of the Dollanganger saga, yet I can still easily follow the story line (unlike in some series in which you will be lost if you didn't start from book one).

After the death of their parents, Clara Sue and her brother, Willie, are sent to live with their grandfather. But tragedy strikes the family again and while Willie is hospitalized, a young boy arrives in the emergency room, poisoned to near death and so traumatized that he cannot even remember his name or family.

Determined to start over again, Clara Sue's grandfather takes the boy in and a long road to recovery and remembrance begins. No expense is spared to rehabilitate the strange boy. While Clara Sue deals with her own grief and resentment towards the child, the boy begins to remember tidbits of his past, a past perhaps better left to the darkness.
