rom acclaimed author V.C. Andrews comes yet another great read. Elle thought she had been born without a soul. After all, that is what the grandparents who are raising her believe. They also believe that it is their job to drive out the evil that Elle is afflicted with in order to keep it from harming them.
o protect Elle's souless being, Grandmother Myra insists that Elle not have contact with the outside world and keeps her imprisoned at home with homeschooling, housework, and religious studies. Of course it is no surprise that Elle becomes particularly intrigued with twins Claudine and Mason during their summer vacation stay at the neighboring house.
lle's forbidden friendship with the twins leads to a secret romance with Mason and an awakening to the fashion, fun, and friendship that she shares with Claudine, things foreign and forbidden to her. Grandfather Prescott wants to lighten up on Elle, nurture her budding artistic talent, and let her be the young woman she is. But with Grandmother Myra ruling the roost, how will Elle ever be free?
nd then, suddenly, Elle's world is rocked by shattering events and begins to unravel. Her freedom comes, but at what price? Is Grandmother Myra trying to protect Elle from the evil of not having a soul, or is there something else, or someone else, Myra is trying to protect Elle from?
