Daniel, Earl of Colebrooke, has returned after a year of absence and is ready to find a wife to beget heirs. He is the most sought after bachelor in London, a rare treat for the ladies of society, handsome, titled and of course very wealthy. Lord Colebrooke hasn't even been in London a week when a mischief maker claims that his sister has killed a man. After calming everyone down, getting to the heart of the matter, and finding no body, he blames the lovely Lady Isabella for creating mischief.

Lady Isabella challenges Lord Colebrooke later when the same thing apparently happens at a party - only this time the man is actually dead. What she doesn't expect is a kiss that sears her lips. She has never wanted to marry, preferring to come and go as she pleases, but this man gets under her skin. Now with a mystery at hand, the intrigue excites her and so do his scandalous kisses every time they meet. Can these two opposites, who butt heads at every opportunity, get past the passion to solve the crime?

What an enjoyable story of a headstrong woman and a man who definitely doesn't want to put the lady at risk of scandal. I love romances set in this time period, where everything is so prim and proper, at least on the surface. I also appreciate the great descriptions of scenes and fashion, that make readers feel they are in a dark corner watching all that goes on. Amelia Grey creates a fine story, giving us the happy ending we all desire.
