Izzy McNeil is an attorney who left the legal world a year ago. Now her friend Maggie offers her a job as a criminal lawyer on a case said to be a crime of passion.

Izzy realizes that her passion for the job has caused problems in the past - it probably was a factor in ending her relationship with Sam. Her gorgeous current boyfriend is younger than she is, and she is contemplating whether or not he is the one. With the court case and her ex-fiancé showing up, Izzy is one busy person. As she works on the case, she uncovers a web of dark secrets.

Valerie Solara is suspected of poisoning and killing her best friend. She has also been accused of a secret passion for her best friend's husband, which is alleged to be her motive. She is holding back secrets - from guilt, or is she covering up for someone? Valerie hopes that Izzy can successfully defend her so that she can be freed to be with her daughter.

Claim of Innocence is well written, with great dialogue and great characters. The suspense grips you right from the start, and it's very realistic. You could actually picture yourself sitting in the courtroom watching the proceedings. There's also a nice twist about best friends, and relationships past and present. A good read for a rainy day.
