Sharlene Waverly, the newest owner of the Honky Tonk Bar, is determined to have it upgraded by Christmas. She meets Holt Jackson who is the best carpenter around. He agrees to take the job, as long as he has a place to stay and can bring his niece and nephew when they are not in school. He is raising the children and will not leave them with a babysitter. Sharlene concurs but tells him he needs to be finished with the addition by Thanksgiving.

Holt is attracted to Sharlene right from the beginning. When she starts showing up at the house after she has nightmares from being in Iraq, he gets to know her even better. Sharlene has trouble sleeping and somehow Holt makes it easier for her to get a good night's rest. Sharlene gets the idea that taking Holt and the kids home to her parents' house will get her mom off her back for a while and stop her from threatening to find Sharlene a husband. The family does not know that she owns a bar. She knows she has to tell them soon but they will not be happy about it. Though the sparks between Sharlene and Holt are igniting, they are both in denial. Sharlene does not think she is the marrying kind. She loves Judd and Waylon but doesn't think she is ready to be a mother.

Honky Tonk Christmas is the last in the Honky Tonk Bar series. Sharlene and Holt seem to be made for each other but fight their attraction. Sharlene knows she is going to miss the kids when they are done with the addition but doesn't think she can leave the Honky Tonk bar. Carolyn Brown has created a series that captures the small town feel, and injects a spark of romance into stories you won't soon forget.
