Dr. Michael Everett has not socialized in the year since his lovely wife Hannah died after a battle with cancer. On the one year anniversary of her death, his brother-in-law Ritchie hands him a letter that Hannah wrote when she knew she was going to die. In the letter she reminds him how much she loved him and assures him that he deserves to find love again. She suggests three women she thinks would be good for him. Though horrified at first, Michael decides he should follow Hannah's wishes.

One of the choices is Hannah's cousin Winter who just broke up with her boyfriend. She owns a pastry shop on Blossom Street and is easy to talk to on their first date. But Winter still seems in love with her boyfriend. The next woman, Leanne Lancaster, was one of the nurses who took care of Hannah during her illness. Leanne's husband was caught embezzling money from the place where he worked, but again she still seems in love with him. Macy Roth is the last on the list. Michael hires her to paint a mural in his office and is unhappy when she is late the first day. Though she has an odd way of looking at life, Michael learns that she has a kind heart. After Macy gets hurt riding her bicycle, Michael stays with her and gets to know her better. He feels that Hannah might have been right - Macy would make him laugh.

Michael has a second chance at love after he receives his wife's letter telling him not to grieve forever. He had closed himself off socially with the exception of the gym with his brother-in-law. All the women on Hannah's list have issues that can make or break a relationship - who will Michael choose? Hannah's List is a story that will bring tears to your eyes, but also laughter at some of its funny scenes.
