Instead, Suzuki Tanaka focuses mainly on the characters and their relation to the story and each other. Each tale is different, ranging from a lover's spat gone horribly wrong, a story of one-sided love, a sort of superhero tale, and a traditional high school romance that is not shonen-ai. The order of the stories themselves is unusual – the first is rather brutal and it progresses to the sweetest story at the end. Tanaka's sparse artwork helps bring out the emotions of the characters as each is faced with a unique situation. While each story is different, they all revolve around the theme of the title: Love Hurts. Fans of yaoi will not find what they are looking for here, but anyone going through the pangs of love will relate to Suzuki Tanaka's characters, and that's what makes a read good.
