Elizabeth Stevens is in her kitchen baking a cake for her ex-husband's wedding on her thirty-fifth birthday. She makes a wish that her ex will be unable to perform on his wedding night. Lights flash and Elizabeth wonders if something is wrong with her mixer. Little does she realize that her grandmother has passed on the gift of gypsy magic to her and what she wishes will come true.

Next, Elizabeth wishes for an attractive man. When she gets home one night she realizes she does not have her keys. She tries to climb in through her window and gets stuck. She is horrified when she realizes that a cop is behind her, probably thinking that she is breaking in. When she is finally free from the window Elizabeth finds out the cop is her handsome new neighbor.

Grandma Verde tells Elizabeth that she gave her the gift of magic which comes into play every time she bakes something - but she needs to be careful what she wishes for. Elizabeth is not so sure about the magic. When she tries it out on a few of her friends, it does not work out as expected. And since she wished for a man in her life, she is juggling Nate (the cop next door) and a gorgeous personal trainer named Kevin. She is also being visited by the spirit of her grandmother's great grandmother who is behind all the magic. She must quickly learn how to use her gift wisely since her life seems to be spinning out of control.

A Taste of Magic, Tracy Madison's debut novel, is brilliantly written and filled with humor, romance and magic. Her characters are so real they come alive with every page turned. Grandma Verde is a quirky individual you can't help but fall for, and Elizabeth's sister will be the lead in the next book, A Stroke of Magic. Readers will be quickly hooked by this highly recommended series.
