Lady Olivia Bevelstoke has heard from friends that her new neighbor killed his fiancée. She has taken to spying on him. But when he spots her she is horrified and tries to pretend she was not watching. It becomes even more awkward when he comes over to her house and tells her that he saw her looking in his window. He begins showing up at all the balls and parties where Prince Alexei is courting her and it is a case of instant dislike between the two men.

Sir Harry Valentine, who works for the War Office, has moved into the neighboring house to Lady Olivia's. When he first notices her spying on him, he dislikes her but when they start talking through their windows and reading together, he sees a different person. Harry is assigned the task of watching Lady Olivia as well as Prince Alexei - he is fluent in Russian and the War Office does not trust the Prince.

Harry and Olivia are thrown together at parties and whenever Harry pops over to visit her. He brings a book for Olivia to read, but she thinks it is silly until Harry's cousin Sebastian reads aloud to them and to Alexei. Stolen kisses and talks bring out Olivia and Harry's true feelings as they gradually fall in love, but danger lurks in the background.

I love the way Harry and Olivia's banter evolves from snippy to teasing as they fall for each other. Of the secondaries, Sebastian brings a quirky humor to the story. Also, Olivia and her brother Winston have a classic sibling rivalry, always trying to get one up on each other. What Happens in London is an entertaining page turner that will bring a smile to your face.
