Jemma, Duchess of Beaumont has been summoned home from abroad by her husband. Elijah is tired of the rumors of scandal that have followed her, and he wants an heir. He knows that Jemma was upset when she found him in his office with his mistress but he hopes that she will give him a son before he dies. His father died early as well as his grandfather and Elijah also shows signs of having a weak heart.

Jemma wants her husband to fall in love with her before she will give him a child. She was deeply hurt by his taking a mistress and will never forget finding him with her. Elijah believes that she took many lovers when she was abroad but the rumors are false. Jemma still loves Elijah but wants to spend more time with him before becoming a mother.

The more Elijah and Jemma are together, the more they realize that they love each other. Elijah's friend Villers has spent a lot of time with Jemma and Elijah does not like the fact that Jemma seems happy in his company. When Jemma finds out that Elijah is having fainting spells due to his heart condition, she is determined to help him find a cure for it.

Elijah and Jemma try to put their marriage back together, but it appears that Elijah is not interested in Jemma as a woman, only as a wife. Though the chemistry between the two ignites, Elijah's illness may throw a wrench in their newfound happiness. This Duchess of Mine is another fantastic episode by Eloisa James in her Desperate Duchess series.
