When he discovers that Emmie has a close association with Senator Calhoun's daughter, he can't believe his good fortune and coldly vows to seduce Emmie to get closer to the Senator's family. While flattered at the fine looking soldier's attention, Emmie is no fool. She's been burned before and senses that Caleb has ulterior motives. Despite his carefully orchestrated mission plan, Caleb begins to truly care for Emmie and her large circle of family and friends. It's not long before he harbours doubts about his ability to follow through with his personal vendetta - not if it means losing the respect of the only woman he'll ever love.
hile not quite as character rich as Daughtridge's debut novel (

still packs a powerful punch as two emotionally needy souls find love, and in Caleb's case must make a choice between exacting his revenge or offering forgiveness. This is another heartwarming and involving tale created by an author whose star is definitely on the rise.
