Fleur Savagar has no self confidence; she grew up in a convent because her father wanted nothing to do with her. She lived for her twice yearly visits with her mother Belinda until she was sixteen, when a fire broke out in the dorm where she lived. When Fleur was identified as the daughter of wealthy Alexi Savagar, he insisted that Belinda bring her home. But Belinda escaped with the ugly duckling daughter who had turned into a beautiful swan, after a friend told her that she could make it as a model.

Jake Koranda, one of Hollywood's hottest actors, also writes screenplays for brilliant movies. He is not happy when Fleur is cast as the main actress opposite him. He does not think she can handle the part but as he gets to know her he can't keep her out of his mind. He helps her learn the part and the movie is an instant hit but he loses Fleur in the process. Jake can't write anymore and can't think of anything but her.

Glitter Baby, a reissue from the 1980's, was Susan Elizabeth Phillips' first contemporary romance. The characters are complex and very well developed. Fleur grew up an ugly duckling and has a difficult time believing that she is beautiful. Jake has his own demons that keep him from sharing his affections. Belinda is an overbearing mother who wants Fleur to be everything that she couldn't. Fleur is also a pawn between Alexi and Belinda, who pull her in different directions. Glitter Baby is a fantastic read in which two people with difficult pasts fall in love; can they live happily ever after?
