ou might think there are already more than enough diets books out there to confuse you and leave you wondering which might be the
one to follow to finally lose that unwanted weight you've carried around for too long. Of course there isn't really any
diet, just a lot of wrong ones, dangerous ones or more of those endless fad diets. Dr. Fuhrman agrees, yet also claims he's used his specific and scientifically based diet plan to help thousands of people lose weight by showing them the right way to eat. His book delivers lots of convincing information.
he first six chapters have the usual technical data and food breakdowns. The author talks about how our North American diet, with its overabundance and easy access to calorie-laden convenience foods, has turned half the population obese and are making us sick or killing us. He goes on to discuss '
the dark side of animal protein
' and why we should stay away from meat products, pointing out that most plants contain all the proteins we need. His diet allows you plenty of food and there's no calorie counting. Meat is pretty much out, and all kinds of vegetables and fibre-rich foods (specifically the green ones) and certain grains, are in. The best news is that you can generally eat as much of these foods as you want.
he rest of the book offers two seven day diet plans: the first being the most aggressive. It's completely vegetarian and, Dr. Fuhrman assures, guarantees you'll lose 20 pounds or more in six weeks. The second seven-day plan is less strict, offers moderate weight loss, and does include some meat choices, mostly chicken and fish. There are also about 40 recipes included, some of which look very appealing.
oth plans seem sensible and very doable if, as Dr. Fuhrman cautions, you're finally willing to '
make a commitment to achieve wellness
'. Your grocery bill may go up though, especially if you live in an area where the price of fruit and vegetables fluctuates dramatically during certain times of the year. You may also have trouble finding some of the spices and condiments Dr. Fuhrman suggests, again, depending on where you live.
