Lee Harris is the author of the Christine Bennett holiday mystery series. She starts a promising new series with Murder in Hell's Kitchen, featuring Detective Jane Bauer. Bauer is just two months away from retirement after twenty years with the New York police department, when she is handed a cold case file of a four year-old murder. What looks to be a simple mugging turns into a more sinister case as Jane pursues the person responsible.

Caught up in other suspicious deaths, Jane travels to Washington D. C. to check an identity, and is followed. Murder in Hell's Kitchen is fast-paced and exciting. A welcome new personality to the literary crime scene, Jane Bauer is a real individual with her own demons to expunge. Her victories are ones we can share in, and her poor choices are ones we can agonize over along with her. Let's hope we see more of Jane Bauer.
