Homicide Detective Jane Bunker - last met in Slipknot - gives up her position in Miami and heads for Green Haven, Maine for what she believes will be a more gentle pace of life. She becomes a marine insurance investigator as well as Deputy Sheriff. Ahh, for the quiet life, dealing with maybe a few pinched lobsters or a speeding ticket or two.

Jane has a rude awakening when a young man dies of a heroin overdose, and another is brought up from the depths impaled on a bait iron. A Native American lectures Jane on his tribe's history from day one, and she meets someone she would like to get to know better.

Linda Greenlaw - author of Slipknot, along with the non-fiction and highly acclaimed The Hungry Ocean, All Fisherman Are Liars, and The Lobster Chronicles, and co-author of Recipes from a Very Small Island - surely does know of what she writes. Her understanding of all things maritime is awesome as is her perception of Down Easters. She has created wonderful characters who pepper the pages with their own slant on life. And let us not forget the Vickersons who are writing an all mussel cookbook!

Then there is the suspense as Jane bustles back and forth between Green Haven and another wee Maine fishing village. Greenlaw builds the anticipation page by page while she lets us view Jane's life from a safer distance. Fisherman's Bend is a good read and one that would be welcome on any beach this summer.
