James Bond thinks that maybe he should retire. His extremely active lifestyle has left him battered and bruised, and he has lost the desire to put his life on the line time after time for merry old England. He thinks M might even retire his 007 number with him. But Ian Fleming started something when he created 007. His fans don't want to see the end of Bond. Even though he ages, as the rest of us do, surely he's good for one more romp in the field of spydom ... author Sebastian Faulks thinks so and proves it with Devil May Care.

Bond has one more task asked of him. A fanatic who hates England is gearing up for a diabolical debacle that could start another world war - making sure that England would get the blame for the widespread destruction. He's a weird villain with a passion for covering his hand with a white glove. Of course, there's a beautiful woman involved too. This is James Bond we're talking about, after all. It's the usual drill for Bond finding the bad guy; spending time with a gorgeous female;, risking life and limb; the really cool scene where it looks like 007 has finally met his match; chilling action that keeps readers holding their breath and, as always, a highly satisfying ending.

Devil May Care is a good book. I had trouble trying to envision James as older - like most fans, I still see Sean Connery shaking hands to introduce himself 'Bond. James Bond' - with that sardonic glint in his eye. But I enjoyed this latest adventure nevertheless.
