his unique book offers up a twist on a
spot the differences
type of book. It features reproductions of two dozen actual works of art by such famous painters as Henri Rousseau, Edward Hopper, Mary Cassatt, Paul Klee and Edouard Manet. All of the artwork featured is actually displayed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C..

here are also
fakes
- paintings that resemble the real ones, but which have been tampered with by the
ghost
artists, whose spirits reside in the art gallery. The
ghosts
have inserted images from other actual paintings featured in the book into their own paintings, and the reader's job is to spot the differences. The pictures in the book are split horizontally, making it easy and fun to match up the
real
and
fake
paintings.
A
score sheet is included to track the number of changes noted. A magnifying glass accompanies the book to add to the fun of detecting what does and does not actually belong in the authentic painting. The answer key is in the back. Helpful descriptions of each scene is included, as well as a short biography of each artist.
I
t is obvious that a lot of work went into putting together this wonderful book - it's a terrific introduction to famous artists and their work. Children of all ages will have so much fun figuring out the differences, that they may not even realize that they are learning something along the way.
Gallery Ghost
is highly recommended for home or classroom use.
