Franny's Friends is a book by Catarina Kruusval that has been translated from Swedish by Joan Sandin. Franny is a little girl who has seven animal friends. All have cutesie names, like Dashie Doggy, Honey Bunny and - the one that sends my four-year old into a giggle fit - Itty Bitty Kitty.

Franny takes her animal friends on a picnic, but along the way, Little Heddy (the hedgehog) and Itty Bitty Kitty fall into a hole. After they are discovered missing, the animals go on a search party and, of course, there is a happy ending when they are found, unharmed.

Not much happens, although it is a sweet story about caring for friends. The watercolor illustrations add much to the book as it is light on plot; the animals are quite expressive and rather adorable. This picture book is appropriate for children in preschool.
