Max's Work of Art is a Level 1 Key to Reading book in the Max & Ruby series that's based on the animated TV series starring the bunny brother and sister. Level 1 is aimed at 'children familiar with the alphabet and ready to begin reading'.

The story starts with Ruby and Louise painting a bowl of fruit in the park. Of course Max wants to help - he paints the fruit in the bowl, upsetting Louise. So Ruby suggests that Max model, which bores him. She decides to teach him about mixing colors. Can you guess what Max paints next? Grandma certainly likes the result.

Young readers will understand Max's desire to participate in what the older kids are doing, while all ages will applaud his creativity. Max's Work of Art is an appealing story for beginning readers. At the back of the book are twelve cards to cut out and match up.
