While some may not admit to watching the show, most Americans have heard of the National phenomenon known as American Idol. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, many people were looking for hope and something positive to believe in. Premiering one year later, American Idol seemed to do just that. It united people without regard to generation or race. Where else could you find average people trying to fulfill a dream? Douglas Everett said it best: 'There are some people who live in a dream world and there are some who face reality - and then there are those who turn one into the other.' These are their stories.

This book is filled with hope, love, courage and optimism. It reminds the reader that it is okay to have a dream and pursue it. The Idols have had struggles with issues such as weight problems and lack of confidence ... just like most of us. For many of them, all it took was one person believing in them to land them in the spotlight of American Idol. There are also stories by fans who inspired some of our favorite idols and vice versa - from the wife who left her abusive husband to the terminally ill child whose wish was fulfilled by an Idol.

Contributors to Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul include Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Ruben Studdard, Mandisa, Melinda Doolittle, Sanjaya Malakai and Clay Aiken.
