elle and Dylan have been going together for two years. In their small town of Eastbrook, Maine, everyone has them married and settled down with a house and a St. Bernard dog. Belle wishes that were true.
hen Dylan breaks up with her, Belle is hurt and confused. Confused, because the reason he gives for the breakup is that he is gay. He loves her, he will always love her, but he is gay. How could she spend two years of her life loving a guy who is gay? How could she not know? Is she really that stupid?
ow the entire school knows, and along with her hurt and confusion, Belle experiences fear. Some people in Eastbrook believe being gay is evil. She worries about Dylan and the boy he is seeing, but maybe she should be worrying about herself.
elle tells her story about the week after their breakup, with the emotional ups and downs and the fears and anger she feels for herself and Dylan and the town she lives in. She learns that loving Dylan means accepting him for who he is. Dylan learns that he must be honest with himself as well as those around him. And they both learn that their love doesn't die just because their relationship has changed.

is a well written story with the forever current theme of being true to yourself.
