Mrs. Aruba-Tate agrees that Ivy and Bean may sit together, but they are often separated for talking. Bean has been separated from everyone in class for talking. Bean needs to sit beside Ivy who speaks softly, so that she can convey her ideas.

When Ivy tells Bean there is a ghost in the girls' bathroom, Bean quickly spreads the news to their classmates. Soon no one will go into the second grade bathroom.

Barrow's fun-loving characters will be a hit with beginning readers. In this second book of the series, Ivy and Bean find a way to strengthen their friendship with a blood oath - sworn with the exchange of spit rather than blood. Their adventure is enhanced by Blackall's expressive black-and-white illustrations.
