This picture book is a loving tribute to teachers everywhere and in fact, was written in honor of the kindergarten teacher who taught the author's daughter. In the book, Mrs. Spitzer is compared to a gardener. She plants seeds and takes care of her garden in the same way she nurtures the children that she teaches. Only through her tender care does her garden flourish.

'As the seasons change, Mrs. Spitzer tends her garden. And then the year is over, and her job is done. But the plants will keep growing, uncurling their stems, stretching their leaves outward, and showing their faces to the sun.' The illustrations are busy but are well-done and a good complement to the text. A nice touch is the smiling faces on all the blooming flowers.

This gift edition of Mrs. Spitzer's Garden would make an ideal end-of-school-year treat for a special elementary school teacher.
