The world of adoption carries a bevy of emotions along with the work that is done to find good adoptive parents for adoptable children. Murder muddies the waters.

Roxanne Prescott is a member of the investigating team assigned to find the killer of Sam Brennan, the kingpin of the adoptive realm. He was an avid collector, whose huge and magnificent home in the San Diego hills is crammed with collections of varied categories – from salt and pepper shakers to old cars. Brennan was a very wealthy man, and the murder scene looks like a burglary gone sour. But it is? Or was this a premeditated act to rid the universe of a hated personage?

This is the second in the Roxanne Prescott series, but the fourteenth of author Taffy Cannon's novels. It is suspenseful and full of supposition and conjecture. Roxanne is a very likeable character – able to reflect on her life and question her own decisions, whether they're centered on her career or her personal life. She is able to see the person behind the facade when the murdered victim's loved ones and business associates are questioned.

Blood Matters is a cleverly written mystery with clues that jump out at you, but never clearly identify the culprit - until the startling ending.
