When handsome Nicolas Cortez comes into Sara's life, things start happening fast. Too fast, really, but after a whirlwind courtship and marriage Sara finds herself next to Nicolas on a plane bound for his home in Bolivia.

It all seems too good to be true. She knows now how the fairytale princess must have felt when Prince Charming fell in love with her – awed and unbelievably happy. Also like Prince Charming, Nicolas is rich, a fact that Sara is oblivious of until she arrives in Bolivia to find her new home is a mansion and the Cortezes are a very wealthy and prominent family.

How do the Cortezes make their money? Nicolas's evasive answers and annoyance at her questions trouble Sara and convince her that something is very wrong. Soon she is caught up in a dangerous and horrifying chain of events. Who can she turn to for help?

Crossfire is by far my favorite contemporary Christian thriller. Jeanette Windle, who lived as a missionary in Bolivia for fifteen years, is a master at portraying the culture and knows the inner workings of the Drug Enforcement Agency. I felt Sara's pain as she struggled to fit in with her new family and their rich, snobbish friends, as she tried to understand her husband's change of personality in his homeland, as her fairytale life turned into her worst nightmare.

Don't be daunted by the length of this exciting novel – it moves at a lightening-fast pace. Full of suspense and intrigue, it had me staying up all hours of the night with wide eyes and a swiftly beating heart. You won't want it to end!
