Classics such as Poe's Tell-Tale Heart, and Shirley Jackson's The Lottery bump up against Winston Churchill's Man Overboard and The Furnished Room by O. Henry. Kittens by Dean Koontz gives a good reason not to lie to a child. John Carrington's Wedding by E. Nesbit presents love beyond the grave. And in Man Overboard, Winston Churchill's character falls into the ocean, where he realizes that death by drowning isn't the worst way to go. While these well-read stories have all been printed elsewhere, having them in one volume is a treat. Barry Moser interprets them in chilling, black and white wood engravings.
