I Have To Go    by Robert Munsch & Michael Martchenko Order:  USA  Can Firefly, 1989 (1983) Paperback      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson This, like other wonderful books by Robert Munsch such as Thomas' Snowsuit, strikes a chord with parents while amusing kids through its funny representation of the power of their actions over adults. In this case, young Andrew is clearly in charge as he controls the pace of the family visit to grandma and grandpa through those dreaded words 'I have to go!' - that always seem to be voiced (or yelled as the case may be) at the most inconvenient times. There's a snowsuit in this book too, by the way, one with 'zippers,10 strings and 5 buckles' (and am I ever glad that those parenting days are in my past!) Still, in those days, my kids and I enjoyed this picture book together. It acknowledges the reality that small children, and their parents, have to deal with (that they can't really predict when they have to go pee), and, through Munsch's trademark exaggeration and Martchenko's hilarious pictures of panicking parents, makes it very funny indeed.
