his delightful story of two sisters, Small and Big, opens '
Small had a problem. She was stuck in Big's shadow.
' (The illustration that accompanies this text, and subsequent ones, show an incredibly cute little girl engulfed in her sibling's huge shadow.) Whatever Small does, Big does better - Big even gets the best presents! And scares her small sister.
hen one day, Big goes too far and makes Small so angry that she does '
something very mean
'. Can you guess how that makes Small feel? She feels '
... even smaller
' and leaves home. Small's lonely until she comes upon Big and discovers there's something she can do that Big can't. Guess what? '
Small felt BIG ... And best of all, / Small was no longer stuck in Big's shadow.
essica Meserve illustrates this sweet story in green, rural surroundings with flowers everywhere. Sisters - both younger and elder - will enjoy
and perhaps learn from it to appreciate better each other's perspective on life. They might also discover that being Small or Big has little to do with size.
