In her Introduction, Jesse Ziff Cool enthusiastically promotes one pot cooking, saying that 'nothing is more inviting than a pot of something wonderful simmering on the stove, the intoxicating scents filling the air with home-cooked warmth' and that 'one of my favorite ways of nurturing people at my restaurants has been this style of Old World rustic comfort food'. She banishes the notion that the process of preparing one pot meals is time-consuming and requires a long list of exotic ingredients by offering over fifty recipes that are simple, easy, delicious, re-heatable, freeze-able and best of all, really do live up to her title - One-Pot Cookbook.

The handy-sized cookbook is divided into sections on Beef, Pork, Lamb, Poultry, Shellfish & Fish, with an additional one for Vegetarian one-pot meals. Cool offers recipes for old favorites like Beef Stew with Buttermilk Dumplings, Meat Loaf with Potatoes and Steamed Green Beans, Slow Cooked Chicken in a Pot and Stove-Top Noodle Casserole. But once you graduate from these recipes, there are more exotic choices, like Mom's Beef Brisket With Prunes and Apricots, Pork Chops With Sweet and Spicy Red Cabbage and Steamed Dill Dumplings, Lamb Chops with Saffron Basmati Rice and Warmed Tomatoes, Lobster Bisque With Potatoes, Chicken Wing Cacciatore with Creamy Polenta and Calves' Liver with Mushroom-Onion Ragout - to name just a few.

Additionally Cool's Tips and Techniques suggest how to choose the right pot, offer golden rules of one-pot cooking, tips on choosing ingredients, the right stock or broth to use, and how to test your one-pot meal for doneness. Plenty of full sized photographs add to this nifty cookbook's panache. I've always loved one-pot meals for their convenience, and best of all, for their taste, and prepare them regularly. In One-Pot Cookbook, I've found a whole new range of food combinations to prepare and enjoy and I'm sure you'll discover the same.
