Phryne Fisher's second adventure, Flying Too High, was first published in 1990 this is the first edition published in the U.S.. I would read of Phryne however old the book. What a wonderful character she is resourceful, caring, a woman ahead of her time, eager to try new things, undemanding but fierce in her loyalties. She has the courage of her convictions and in general just loves life.

A woman pleads with PI Phryne to take on her case. She's sure her son is about to murder his father her husband. Sounds like the father deserves killing, but the hysterical wife doesn't want her son to pay the price for that crime. Phryne's character emerges in Flying Too High. She proves to be a more than a competent pilot but not soon enough to save Daddy or son from being carted off to the hoosgow.

Add a kidnapping to the story, as well as Phryne's move from a hotel to a house. There we meet two new characters, the domestic couple who run her home. How they handle Phryne's free love lifestyle is fun to read about. Phryne is worth knowing. She'll brighten any day.
