Becky Miller wants to be super mom. She has superhero fantasies involving saving the day, rescuing people in distress, and generally being the perfect woman. But reality often falls short of the ideal. Although much of her life as a stay-at-home mom is mundane - chauffeuring kids around, doing laundry, cooking meals - Becky's biggest accomplishment is that she has designed and executed a wonderful women's ministry program at her church. Now they want to hire a paid women's ministry director, and Becky thinks she's perfect for the job.

But life sometimes gets in the way of the best-laid plans, and Becky's is quickly turned upside down. With a layoff for her husband, a computer that breaks in the middle of taking college courses, and the discovery that she will be featured in a magazine as a Woman of Vision, Becky doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. Can she learn to give up control and trust that God can handle her crazy life?

The Secret Life of Becky Miller is a superlative novel, a must-read for every Christian mother. Sharon Hinck vividly captures the dreams and desires of women - as Becky says, 'To Do Big Things for God.' This is an issue that so many women struggle with and God can teach each of us lessons through this beautifully written novel. There are many hilarious moments, which help to temper the ones that hit way too close to home and might cause a few tears.

I found myself identifying with Becky all the way through the novel, and related so well to her struggles as a wife, mother and friend. The storyline is filled with interesting characters and situations. This story is superb, and Sharon Hinck continues it with Renovating Becky Miller next year.
