Feet Man and Mr. Tiny    by Gina Freschet Order:  USA  Can Farrar Straus & Giroux, 2006 (2006) Hardcover     Reviewed by Hilary Daninhirsch Feet Man has the biggest feet in town, a source of constant problems for him. He cannot find shoes in his size, and the townspeople tease him relentlessly. One day, Feet Man meets Mr. Tiny, when the latter gets stuck between Feet Man's toes. Mr. Tiny - the smallest person in town - also experiences his share of teasing. Mr. Tiny explains how he learned to use his short stature to his advantage, then proceeds to help Feet Man realize that his feet are nothing to be ashamed of and in fact, make him quite special. I like the message that you can choose to view your physical shortcomings as strengths. But for me, this book's major appeal lies in the fun language used, including alliteration, repetition, and the occasional play on words. For example, when Mr. Tiny enters Feet Man in a foot contest, they notice the presence of: 'Gigantic feet, titanic feet, humungous feet and fungus feet. Stubby feet, grubby feet, horny feet and corny feet. Fat feet, flat feet, square feet and bare feet, very, very hairy feet and absolutely scary feet.' The illustrations also contain just right touch of exaggeration to appeal to the intended audience.
