This Little Light of Mine, in small-size board-book format, is typical of Raffi's Songs to ReadŽ. Just the right size and durability for wee ones to carry around and discover the pictures that go with the peppy song words on each page. Parents, grandparents, and babysitters too, will enjoy spending time with toddlers and teaching them the lyrics, rhythm, and melody to a popular tune.

As youngsters enter a room, turning on the overhead light via the light switch by the door, the lyrics begin, 'This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine ... Let it shine, let it shine. Let it shine.' Each page is a scene of boys and girls preparing to paint stage scenery, select costumes, and practice to perform for a school production of the song in action ... 'Performance Tonight 6:00 pm.' Performers are dressed in costumes representing such characters as space travel, the Statue of Liberty, cowboys, and coal miners.

Other books in guitar-player Raffi's series include Down by the Bay, and Wheels on the Bus. Stacey Schuett's illustrations are lively, expressive, and colorful with lights in all forms, such as candles and flashlights. Come on along with me as I tune my voice to sing out loudly, 'Everyday, everyday, I'm gonna Let my little light shine.' Ah, the sweetness and splendor of music knows no boundaries!
