Lee, Lloyd, Billy and Angela are not thrilled by the 'first morning back at school' ... that is, until they find an alien lurking behind a bush. You see, Martin's green all over, he has antennae instead of hair, and he's unusual in other ways too.

The story unfolds in an engaging and inclusive manner, as we're told how each of the four children looks and acts, just before one of Martin's attributes is revealed - color, head covering, play, movement, knowledge, and artistic expression. Finally, the four children head home - by car, bike, bus, and on foot. Can you guess how Martin returns to his world?

It's a cute picture book to read aloud. It would be easy to use But Martin! to promote interaction with a child or group of kids, asking questions like 'What do you think Martin will paint?' Kids' answers are likely to be as entertaining as the story, which is illustrated in a bright, zany, childlike style.
